I was saddened to hear yesterday of the passing of Chicken John's beloved dog, Dammit. I first met Dammit about two years ago when Chicken John, a local artist and showman, decided to run for mayor of San Francisco, and I decided to cover his campaign. I fell in love instantly with Dammit, who was about 17 years old at the time. I rarely saw Chicken and Dammit apart; she was always present during events at his warehouse, often nosing about under a table looking for a piece of food that someone had dropped, or sleeping close to Chicken's feet. I loved to see her, pet her and take photos of her. She was a sweet dog, and I wish that I had spent more time in her presence.
When I heard about Dammit's passing, I decided to make this slide show to pay my respects to both Dammit and Chicken. They were very clearly a team and it will be hard to think of one without the other.
Rest in peace, Dammit Dog.
